Managing & Evaluating Projects
Managing Projects covers project management practices of Caribbean organizations in general and Barbadian organizations in particular. The Caribbean public sector, for instance, currently plans and implements development programmes and projects to a value in excess of US$2 billion per year. Many of these projects/programmes are funded either through local borrowing or by international development agencies and focus on wide areas of national development, including agriculture, infrastructure, education, health, tourism, public sector reform, institutional strengthening and social sector development. However, there is increasing concern expressed by the both host governments and international development agencies about overall project management performance. Institutional strengthening, project / project management research, project management training and documenting the lessons learned may be some of the possible solutions. Although many projects have been successfully implemented over the years, there is little documentation to account for their success. Similarly, causes of project failure are also vague and unclear. This book on one hand explores causes of project failure and on the other hand proposes effective tools and techniques of project management.
